Dr Malmström has devoted the better part of her career to global affairs and international relations and has extensive experience from multilateral leadership and cooperation.

Dr Malmström has devoted the better part of her career to global affairs and international relations and has extensive experience from multilateral leadership and cooperation. She has served as European Trade Commissioner and European Home Affairs Commissioner, as well as Minister for EU Affairs in the Swedish Government. As Commissioner for trade she negotiated FTAS on behalf of all EU member states and represented the European Union in the WTO. She was a Member of the European Parliament from 1999-2006. Cecilia Malmström has a PhD in Political Science from Gothenburg University, Sweden. Herev research focused on European Politics, regionalism and terrorism.

 

 Ms Malmström is currently Visiting Professor at the School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg. Since June 2021 she is a non-residential senior fellow at Peterson Institute for Internal Economics (PIIE) in Washington, DC

 

Cecilia Malmström is married and has two children. She currently lives in Göteborg, Sweden but has also lived and worked in France, Belgium, Spain and Germany.
