Dr Malmström has devoted the better part of her career to global affairs and international relations and has extensive experience from multilateral leadership and cooperation.

Dr Malmström has devoted the better part of her career to global affairs and international relations and has extensive experience from multilateral leadership and cooperation. She has served as European Trade Commissioner and European Home Affairs Commissioner, as well as Minister for EU Affairs in the Swedish Government. As Commissioner for trade, she negotiated FTAS on behalf of all EU member states and represented the European Union in the WTO. She was a Member of the European Parliament from 1999-2006. Cecilia Malmström has a PhD in Political Science from Gothenburg University, Sweden. Herev research focused on European Politics, regionalism and terrorism.

 

Since June 2021 Cecilia Malmstrom is a non resident fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics in Washington DC. She is also a senior advisor at Covington and is working at Lindholmen Science Park in Goteborg with questions related to Globalisation and the Future of Democracy.

                       

Cecilia Malmström is married and has two children. She currently lives in Göteborg, Sweden but has also lived and worked in France, Belgium, Spain and Germany.
