On April 7, 2022, the Friends of Multilateralism Group (FMG) organized a brainstorming session to discuss the WTO Joint Statement Initiative on trade and gender. Sherry Stephenson, FMG member, Consultant with the Services Network of the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council (PECC) moderated this session.

Mia Mikic, FMG Board member and former Director of Trade, Investment and Innovation Division of the United Nations ESCAP; Jane Korinek, Economist and Trade Policy Analyst, Trade in Services Division, Trade and Agriculture Directorate, OECD; and Gabrielle Marceau, Senior Counsellor in the Research Division (ERSD) of the WTO Secretariat, shared their insights on this topic. Alison Hamilton, DPR of New Zealand and Markus Jelitto, Counsellor for Trade in Services and Investment Division of the WTO shared their comments about this subject, including the historic provision on gender equality in recently-concluded WTO negotiations on Services Domestic Regulation, followed by discussions among participants.

Nearly 30 participants including members of FMG, Ambassadors/DPRs of WTO members, and representatives from related international organizations attended this session.
