On 5 June, the Friends of Multilateralism Group (FMG) organized a webinar “WTO Ministerial Conferences-Lessons to Learn from the History”. Victor Do Prado, FMG member, former Director of the WTO General Council and the Trade Negotiations Committee moderated this session.
At the session, John Weekes, FMG member, former Canadian Ambassador to the WTO; Stuart Harbinson, FMG member, former Chief Representative of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to the WTO; Joao Aguiar Machado, former Ambassador of EU to the WTO shared their insights on the process by which ministerial conferences are prepared and run, including the roles of the General Council Chair and the TNC Chair to the use of informal consultations etc., drawing lessons from past experiences.
Over 80 participants joined the session, including members of FMG, Ambassadors/DPRs of WTO members, representatives from related international organizations, and experts from renowned think tanks and universities etc.
