On Friday, 25 February 2022, the Friends of Multilateralism Group (FMG) organized a dialogue with Ms Elizabeth Baltzan, Senior Advisor of the USTR. Daniel Crosby, Board Member and Treasurer of FMG and Office Managing Partner of King & Spalding LLP Geneva, moderated this dialogue.

 

Ms Elizabeth Baltzan, in her speech titled “ITO 2022”, reviewed the the ITO and the Havana Charter and their significance for the new reality of the multilateral trading system. She also answered questions from participants on the role of the United States, the impact of geopolitics on the multilateral trading system, and the Appellate Body crisis, etc.

 

This dialogue was conducted in hybrid format and under Chatham House rules. Over 50 participants joined the dialogue, including members of FMG, Friends of FMG, Ambassadors and DPRs of WTO members, and representatives from related international organization and think tanks.

The Friends of Multilateralism are pleased to announce that Ms. Elizabeth Baltzan, Senior Advisor to the United States Trade Representative, has accepted our invitation to address the Friends of Multinationalism and its stakeholders during her visit to Geneva next week.  On Friday, 25 February, from 13:00-14:45, Ms. Baltzan will share her thoughts on ITO 2022 and engage in discussion following our usual format.
