On October 28, 2022, the Friends of Multilateralism Group (FMG) organized an online brainstorming session to discuss investment facilitation for development (IFD). Sherry Stephenson, FMG member and Services Convenor for the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council (PECC) of the WTO moderated this session.

Sofia Boza Martinez, co- coordinator of the Structured Discussions on Investment Facilitation for Development and Chile’s Ambassador to WTO; Axel Berger, Deputy Director (interim) at the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS); and Karl P. Sauvant, Resident Senior Fellow at the Columbia Center on Sustainable Investment (CCSI) shared their insights on negotiating and implementing investment facilitation measures for development. Hamid Mamdouh, FMG member and Former Director of Trade in Services and Investment Division of the WTO shared his comments as discussant. Then, the speakers answered the questions from the participants.

More than 30 participants joined the brainstorming, including members of FMG, Ambassadors/DPRs of WTO members, Directors of WTO divisions, representatives from related international organizations, and experts from renowned think tanks and universities etc.
